Does anyone know if it is possible to know the head volume by identifying the year and model the head came from? I have combination of a '77 302 block and '76 302 heads. This has to increase compression being that the '77 has flat top pistons and a visibly larger head volume, where the '76 has smaller head volume and dished pistons.

Many parts listing indexes will have "range" listings for a given casting of heads ... normally these "range" listings will have a + or - of say 2 to 4 ccs.

The only way to know for sure what they are (or if a pair of heads match closely) ... is to cc the heads.

Most any machine shop could do that for you.

Good Luck
