I have a rear end from a mid 60's mustang V8. It has 10" drum brakes. Is the conversion to 11" as easy as changing the backing plate and then using all the 11" shoes, hardware, and drums? I can get the 11" brake assemblies from a '64 Galaxie.
Any comments would be appreciated.
Thanks, Jeff

It depends on the length of the axle (flange to retainer) and the offset of the backing plate. If the two axles are not the same in those areas the drums will either bind on the backing plate or will not seat up properly and cover the shoes. You may be able to use spacers in one of the situations. If both are the same shoe width , 2 inch 2-1/4 or 2-1/2 etc., chances are they may work.

There are 2 possible flange bolt patterns on the rears and the backing plates are not interchangeable between the two. ;) The Mustang should have the small pattern, the Galaxie?????????

You're right, forget to mention that. I have those dimensions somewhere.
