I've got a 79 bronco with the 400 engine my son and I are restoring. Yesterday it wouldn't crank after he took it to school. The battery was swapped and it started without difficulty and he drove it to work. It was dead again after work. The dome light and dash lights would come on for a few seconds then go out. The battery has 12.5 volts and is new. I have tried to find the problem with a circuit tester without luck. All the wires shows to be good. I'm stumped. Any suggestions?

What year? If it has a Duraspark I would suspect that from the symptoms you are describing.

Ah 79, pays to read I guess. I would suspect the Duraspark but we need a bit more info.

Does the starter turn over when this is going on and it simply won't fire up or is the starter dead too?

It's a 79 so I think it is a duraspark. Thought it could be the ignition module but it's good.

No it doesn't turn over. The headlights and everything else is dead.

The grounds on the block and on the solenoid need cleaning. In fact, remove and sand or wire brush all your + and - connections. Then re-try.

Once it's running then you can diagnose any other issues.

Wow, thanks! That did the trick! It fired right up. Boy do I feel dumb! Like you said, now on to other projects
