How important is the detent roller on the manual lever? My trans didn't have one to remove on tear-down. I can't recall any problems when the trans was installed previously. Is its function to keep the gear selector tighter (a more positive feel) and from dropping/slipping/flopping about?

Also, I'm putting the VB back in today. I cant remember if the manual lever contacts (slips into) the first or second slot of the manual valve? I'm thinking it was in front (first area) of the c-clip that holds the manual valve in, but not 100% positive?
TIA

Any ideas where to get a detent roller? This VB didn't have one.
Really odd. The trans has been in the car since 72 or 73 and really didn't notice anything weird about the trans, aside from the floor mount shifter slipping from neutral into drive real easy. It was a green dot.

If that is a green dot valvebody the detent is part of the valvebody as opposed to the later style with the external rooster comb spring plate and roller setup.
The green dot type manual valve in the V.B should click when it's moved.

The manual valve moves freely in the upper body.
The VB is stamped with three circles. One of the circles has an eleven (11) over 71? Another circle has a "3" stamped in it. And another has "BU" There is a green tag whichs reads 7L1 attached. The cast code reads RF-D2AP-7A101AA.

Would this be an early 71 VB? (January 1, 1971)
Also, I don't believe the inner manual lever (inside case) is "stepped"/notched/toothed for the rooster comb? I'll have to confirm that.

I think I may have misled you when I said it "was" a green dot.
