Hi

I have an 86 302 block with a dipstick tube\hole towards the rear of the engine block on the left hand side. I have read that this makes it an earlier than 82 engine as after that year the dipsticks were all in the front on the timing cover. Can anyone clarify this for me?

Your Block casting numbers will tell you more than WE can...
Yes I understand that. My casting number is 28 E7TE-CAS with a date code of 6L24 which gives me Nov 24th 1986, but I had been told that the dipstick on the block stopped after 82 and moved to the front timing cover. Obviously that information is wrong.

Thanks for replying

You got it reversed. Later years had it in side of block, some in oil pan, all depending what vehicle and where sump is located. If there's a problem, plug the hole and move it where you need it.
