I have a 347 stroker based on a 5.0L HO block (using HO firing order). My question is in reference to installing the distributor. All of the 5.0 HO firing order diagrams I have seen show the #1 on the distributor as being at about 1 o'clock (pointing at driver). My builder delivered the engine with the distributor installed, but the rotor points at about 5 o'clock. The engine is at TDC. Can I just run the firing order (1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8) with the rotor at the 5 o'clock using that post as #1 or should I re-install the distributor and point the rotor at the 1 o'clock and use that post as #1 as per all the diagrams I have seen.

This is correct as long as the builder truly left it at TDC on the correct stroke. Certainly worth a try if you are reasonably certain, otherwise you will need to check the valvetrain at #1 in order to determine the position of true TDC.
