Posted earlier to wrong forum. I am currently running on 14" vintage rims and I want to get a set of BFG Drag Radials to drop my 60fts.
I'm somewhat limited on height and width, but my question is this. Should I go with a size that has slightly less width with taller sidewalls or one with more width with shorter sidewalls? More traction from widith or softer sidewalls?

I'm talking 215/60/14 (8.7 tread and 24.2" height) or 225/45/14 (9.1 and 22" height).

I'm running a 4.11 with a 3.35 first gear so I'm pretty low already. Current tire size is 225/60/14.

Thanks,

your pretty low geared... are you sure you want a tire that small? Hoosier "quick time pros" can be got in a 26" tall x 9.5 wide for a 14" rim. I use them and they stick pretty unreal. I go through the traps at 6500rpm with 4.11's.

I will look into those. That may just work. I don't see any issue with the width, but the height may be a different story.

Right now I'm at 1.95 60ft 13.71 through the 1/4 @100.78. I am running Cal-Tracs as well.

In your case I would pick width over height, personally. The tire isn't going to see too much of a shockload with the HP needed for your MPH.

So, the traction of a wider tread may be of more benefit than the elastic sidewall of a taller tire. Not that there will be much diffefence between say a 26" and 28" drag radial sidewall. Both are pretty stiff.

Good luck,

Greg

Those 215/60R14 BFG Drag Radials are pretty small for a Falcon. I'm running a set on my 302 240Z and getting 1.65 60 foots but that's with C4 and locked 4.11 independent rear.

My Falcon running 26X10.50X15(8 inch tread) ET Streets 60 foots about the same as the Datsun.Maybe you can find a set of 26 inch tall tires to fit 14 inch rims?I think M&H has some.
