It is now time for me to start messing with the driveshaft in the Mustang. I know very little about the numerical terminology of U joints such as 1310, 1330, 1350.

What is the difference in the #'s?

Can the different ones be mixed, such as a 1310 driveshaft to a 1350 yoke?

I just was wondering the same thing this comes from the website:

What is the difference between 1310, 1330 and 1350 Series?
The "series" of a driveshaft or universal joint is determined by the actual dimensions of the u-joint. While the front and rear u-joint can be of two different sizes the shaft is only as strong as the smaller one. The 1310 series u-joint measures approximately 3 1/4 inches wide. The 1330 and 1350 both measure approximately 3 5/8 wide. The 1310 and 1330 series can have cap diameters of 1 1/16 and/or 1 1/8 inch or a combination of both sizes. The 1350 series has a cap diameter of 1 3/16 inch and the body and journals are bigger than the 1310 or 1330. Remember 1350 is almost never found in production car driveshafts.

Alot of good information about u joints and drive shafts on that page.

Thanks guys for a wealth of information.

The link that 1982ford100 posted is a pretty decent read for those of us who are driveshaft challenge.

Dennis, I used the 1350 series on my driveshaft. I doubt that I will need the strenght that it gives, but with my 414w and running a t5 I didn't want to take any chances with anything breaking. The 1330's are what most people use for a street/strip ride, and normally the 1310 size is what comes stock from the factory. With your engine and tranny I'd say a 1330 is strong enough for you unless you going to be doing some heavy duty drag racing all the time. But they do make conversion u-joints that the driveshaft side can be running a 1310 and the diff. yoke can be a 1330.
