I am trying to sort out an electrical problem with a 64 Galaxie I recently purchased. It is supposed to have a 428, but I have not yet been able to confirm this. When purchased, the engine had to be hot wired in order to get it running. Everything looks like it is wired correctly. When I hook up the battery the only thing that comes on is the Generator warning light. This is on even though the ignition is still in the off position. No headlights...nothing. I think the ground wires are good. I'm running out of ideas and things to check.

If the red generator light comes on immediately after connecting the battery, it means usually something fouled up inside the regulator box. Short, etc. Just remove two of the three terminals in it will go away. 'course you will not have any charging system until the regulator is replaced. A good regulator ought to click once the key it moved into the ON position, with engine not running. It will click out, quietly once the engine is fired up amd running. If no click, then the regulator is bad some place.
