Which wire goes to the points in the distributor? + or -?

Which terminal does the wire from the key switch connect?
+ or -?

Will an engine run if this is backwards?

Well, I learned something new. Apparently you can wire it backward and it will run. Won't run great, but it ran well enough that I had been driving it around for a while not knowing better. I was putting in a Pertronix when I realized things didn't look right. I must have done it several years ago when I swapped the intake. I had been running with the ignition wire on the - side of the coil and points to the +. I wouldn't have though it possible had I not read about it on another site. It was mentioned the timing would be retarded. That explains why I was having trouble setting the timing right and a vacuum guage kept showing it as "late timing".

Yeah the spark likes to jump from the electrode to the plug body not vice versa . That's would be why she no run so good. Stu
