i know your gonna hate me for this,but.....

can anyone give me an idea which motors are designed for what and which is the best for what reason......

basically we have 332 all the way up to 428...to me bigger is better, but what motor should i be looking for to build?

big is more torque, smaller higer revs....

i just want to put a good motor in my 1965 galaxy or should i just build the 390 i got in it.

I would go for a 351w stroked to 393 in the Galaxy, pleany of torque and inexpensive build.

Malik2, since you're talking about FE engines the 390 is most easiest to come across.
Stroking a 390 (because as a 390 you are stuck with about 450 hp if it's tweaked real good) If you want more HP you need to go bigger like a 428 or the 427. Below are some facts, if ANYONE want's to argue them with me I will smack them with a half a tuna salad sandwich!

The stock 1962 390 had 401 horsies under the hood with a Tri-Power. Today you can make it and more with just a 4V intake and head work.

The stroked 39o has multiple possibilities! BUT, the 428 crank that's generally used to stroke them with is COSTLY! And things start from there.

What do yo want to do with this galaxie of yours?

AND: Nobody really what reasons which engines were put in what and why... Why did the '63.5 - '64 Galaxie 500's come with more 289's than they did Big Bock FE's?
I've seen literally HUNDREDS of 289 powered original Galaxie 500's and the occasional FE...

There's no Rhyme nor reason for what goes into what....

Because gas was as expensive in 1963 as it is today. It might have cost 30 cents a gallon but if you made $3 an hour you had a really good job .

Gas expensive, try $1.45 a litre or in your numbers $5.80 a gallon!!!

393W or the 390 are both good options.....

Isn't the Galaxy a heavy car, either way plenty of torque sounds like a plan.

We can put a stroker kit together that'll turn that 390 into a 445. Its not super cheap - but pretty much normal for what you get. It would certainly be cheaper overall than swapping out all the trans, exhaust and hardware for something else. And it's make some darn serious torque for that big Ford
