Anyone got a link to an exploded view of a 1 ton rear axle? I've got to yank my drums but haven't done anything bigger than a 1/2 ton.

I believe I've got to remove the 6+ (maybe 8, going from memory) bolts holding the axle in, yank the axle and then I can remove the drum and change the shoes.

That's it. Simple as that. You take out the 8 bolts and whack it sideways with a hammer or mallet to break the sgasket free, slide out the axle.
Then you straighten out the tab on the lock washer under the retaining nut, remove the nut and washer and bearing, and slide the drum off into your lap.
You're done as soon as you get the new brakes on.
Put some medium Loc-Tite on the axle bolts and zap them back on good~N~tight (like a German Virgin
) and away you go....

Adjust the brakes just like on your 1/2 ton.

OH CRAP! Don't furget ta due wun side at a time, utilizing only one jack stand, lift it high enough to keep the gear oil inside the housing... Lifting it about 6 inches higher than the opposite axle tube will be more than enough.
You don't want a big unstoppable puddle pouring out into the garage do ya?
One last thing.... Make sure you have enough room between the wall and you to slide out a 30+ inch axle....
I did that once and couldn't remove the axle because of a wall behind me....
