Hi I recently bought my first car a 64 fairlane 4dr with a 289 3 speed automatic. On the way home from where I bought it the 289 spun a rod bearing wearing the crankshaft 30 thou under. I would like to put a 4bbl carb on it, a mild cam and duel exhaust. I have taken off the carb intake ect... and know heads and plan on pulling the pistons and ive kept everything labeled to where it goes. At this point i assume i need a new crank or can it be repaired? What would be the steps to rebuild it.
Be nice im 14 and could be building a tuner

You will need to get the Crank turned at a machine shop, and new bearings.
Probably need to take the rods to the machine shop also, so they can measure them for the correct bearings.

You may want to get a Engine overhaul manual like this,

Hope this helps. Good luck with the rebuild.

You could go to a junkyard or Craigslist to get a 5.0 from a Mustang or a Explorer, swap some of your parts over and use it.
