I had my 64 390 rebuilt last year, and it now has 1100 miles on it. I see a few drips now under the bell housing. It is not from the pan or run down valve covers, so I believe the rear main is starting to drip.

Being that I hardly drive the Galaxie in the off season, have you folks found that a sitting car has seals dry out this fast? Especially if it is a rope type seal. Will it "re-hydrate" and seal with use this spring or do I now live with cardboard under the car?

The side seals on each side of the rear main cap could also be an issue. I like to put some silicone in the side seal holes before slipping the side seals in place to insure that the area between the block and the rear cap is sealed. If the nails that are used on the side seals are put on the outside of the seals rather than the inside, a leak can also occur. Any of the oil galley plugs in the back of the block can also leak as well as the cam bearing plug. The cam bearing plug on the Fe is unique in that it installs with the cup facing out instead of in.
