I hate to beat a dead horse to death but i need help. I am looking for info about pressed conrods with floating pistons. I have looked through a lot of forums for info on this but the specific info needed just isnt out there. I have STOCK conrods in 2001 3.8 with Sealed power floating pistons just in from supplier. I have checked the floating pin and the original pin and the dimensions are EXACTLY the same. Weird i know but bulls eye dead on. Both pins are .9055. any tighter i cant tell. I want to float the pistons and rods only probs is conrod small end is too tight. I should have this number in my head as many times that i have measured it but the pins O.E.M are pressed. Now all that said. I have decided that i DO NOT want to kick balance or strength to the curb nor do i want to shell out more money if not needed so, Can i press the floating pins into original conrods? Simple question. I know about the rod clearance. I know about the end clearance. I know about the heating and cooling. Is it possible to do this? Will it last? Am i about to throw away $4000.00?( prepped block, new crank, new pistons, new rings, new cam, refurb counterbalance, resurface heads, etc.etc....) Way over budget on this car. Wife gonna kill me if i spend any more. But if more is needed to NOT kill motor then tell me. I need back up here. I really want the floaters but...?

Before you do any modifications you FIRST have to make sure the new pistons have provisions for pin locks. This would be circular grooves in the piston at each end of where the pin would ride. If you do not, you can not convert the rods to full floating. FWI the pins ALWAYS float in the piston. If the grooves are there and locks were furnished with the pistons, you can have your local machine shop ( if so equipped) hone the small end of the rod to .9065 or .001 larger than the pin diameter. You should also add an "oil feed" hole to the top of the rod ( into the pin bore of the rod) so the pin can get oil. This "steel on steel" method is ok but the preferred method is for a bronze bushing to be installed ( requiring a bigger hole be bored into the rod).
You MUST have one method or the other for pin retention , press or float with locks at the ends of the pins.
