Ive got a 65 mustang that I plan on putting 18x10 rear wheels. I am mini tubbing the car. What legnth is ideal for the rear housing to be. I will be using a ford 9" but I dont know what length. I am looking at one that measures 49 from axle to axle is that too narrow?

Before you go too far you should do the math with what offsett wheels you plan to go with. 65s can handle an 8" rim at 4.75 backspacing with the stock width rear end. Your minitub should allow for 2" additional per side. With that you could di it simple and narrow the rear end 4" and have 2" added to the outer lip of the wheels I described. Or not cut the stock rear end and add you 2" of wheel to the inner lip of the described wheel dimensions. I hope that sounds clear enough.

You also have to look at the leafs. They'll limit you how far in you can go without relocating them.

The Sept. 06 Mustang Monthly has a very good Restomod Corner Article on it. Worth looking at. Measure twice, cut once.
