Freeze Plug replacement - 1965 4 Door Falcon - 289 Auto

So I started this a couple of years ago and as usual Life got in the way. The question is can I reasonably replace the freeze plugs on the side of the block on a 289 with the engine still in the car? Several popped out over winter and were on the ground when I found a big leak when putting water back into the radiator. Or is it such a PITA that it might just be easier to pull the engine to do it??? No lift - it will have to be on Jack stands - on a wooden platform on my back - by my self.

Thanks LBM

Depends on which one’s popped out.
One on each side are under the engine mount.
I had a 65 Mustang with the 289 and the same thing happened.
It cracked the block from water jacket to cylinders.
Pull the head’s first and make sure there are no cracks.
Good luck!

It's at least the R side and I believe I found 2 on the L side on the ground. The plugs were thin not with the lip - so I'm hopeing there wasn't much force holdng them in. But you are right - I'm afraid the block may be cracked. I think I'll just have to pull the engine so I can see all of them. I just plain forgot to drain the water. Water pump was bad so I was just limping along and didn't want to spend the $ on Anti Freeze - which in hind sight ( while kincking myself in the BUTTOX) the AF would of been cheaper! Thanks
