My fuel gauge has recently started staying pegged way past Full. It has always been inaccurate, pegging past Full when I fill up and running out of gas at 1/4 tank. I could live with that. However, now it is staying pegged even after driving 100 miles. I was rummaging around under the dash recently. Perhaps I popped a wire offy. Would that make it stay pegged?
Thanks,
Rob

No. Popping off a wire would make it read empty. I would start by unplugging the wire at the fuel sender and see if the gauge goes to empty. If it does go to empty then the sender is bad. If it still reads full either the wire is shorted to ground (from the gas gauge to the sender) or the dash gauge is bad.

Check the IVR instrument voltage regulator.
It’s supposed to “regulate” the voltage to the gauge @ 6 volts.

Too high a voltage will peg the gauge and possibly burn it out.
