Be sure to check your bolts. The '89 used standard head bolts, but many kits come with TTY (Torque To Yield) bolts to cover more years with one kit. Standard bolts have a standard hex head, and TTY bolts have a flanged hex head. I use FE's method for standard bolts, but my final is 65-72 on the short bolts and 70-77 on the long ones. TTY bolts are single-use only, and are torqued 25-35, 45-55, and an additional 1/4 turn (90°) on all bolts. On both types I wait 5 minutes between torquing steps to allow the gaskets to de-gas. Do not re-torque. Use sealer on the bolts that hit the water jacket.

Remember to oil underneath the head of the bolt, you don't want that part creating the torque.
