Ok, we hit our first snag last night while putting in the Painless Perf. wiring kit. The headlight switch in 2 different publication, shows only7 wires coming off of it.

1. Blue-Red
2. Red-Yellow
3. Black
4. Black-Orange
5. Black-Yellow
6. Green-Yellow
7. Black-Blue

What the hell is the eighth Yellow-Red wire for?!

One of the publications I am using is the shop manual for the 1964 Galaxie and the other is what my brother-in-law gets off of the net at his automobile repair company. Neither shows 8 wires.

Why is it this crap happens only to me!! Thanks in advance

Maybe you just don't use the 8th wire? I bought a new HL switch for my car from Napa thinking mine was bad. Turned out it wasn't but the switch had one less plug on it than the original. Best I could determine was they combined 2 of them into one. They let me put the switch in the car and make sure everything worked before even paying for it and all was good so maybe the wiring is something like that for you also. An extra wire that some '64s might have for who knows what. 4 ways or something maybe, convertible top switch? Not sure how that would work with the headlight switch though but must be for something.
Only Yellow I see is for the wiper switch and goes to the wiper motor. Was just looking at a dif diagram I had.

You could be right. I just don't want to have to pull everything a part after it's taped up and zip tied if it is needed.

Are your wiring diagrams easy to see? If not I can email the ones I have that are pretty easy to see. I looked through the whole thing and only found yellow here and there, little short pieces other than the one mentioned above and that wasn't but I think 2 of the shorty ones. Seems like even for an optional item it would show where it goes though. Maybe you were the lucky one and got the Monday or Friday oops version?

Are you saying the kit says there should be a yellow-red wire there. I too only see 7 wires on the diagram. I looked at a wireing diagram i have and i didnt see a yellow-red wire used at any time.you cant read it but this is what it looked like http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/commanche69/detail?.dir=81f2&.dnm=fe12.jpg&.src=ph

maybe you can trace where it goes to on the block and figure it out from there. Maybe its like an extra accessory power or somthing.

After a very long weekend we ended up getting the whole car wired and everything working. The Yellow-Red wire that is not in the wiring schematic is actually a power-out wire. I think my brother-in-law said is went to the dome lights. After all the time robbing labor that I put in rewiring I hope I don't have to ever do that again! Thanks to everyone who replied.
