For you '67 Galaxie owners...

After 5 years of ownership, I just now noticed how my heater behaves in my Galaxie. I've only driven it during the summer and never needed the heater. Now that I drive it daily after moving to a warmer climate, I occassionally need the heater.

There are 3 sets of levers: temp, off/heat/defrost, and fan.

It looks like heat is either on or off. I can leave the fan controls in the "off" position and still get heat when the heat is in the "on" position. What am I missing? What does the fan control do? I don't hear anything when I turn the fan on low/med/high.

Sounds like your fan motot may be shot. If I use the fan control I can hear the fan get faster as I move the dial. As for the heat, mine also allows me to adjust the temp. If the heat is set to max then will feel heat coming out regardless of fan setting.

Yea, I can definitely feel and hear the fan motor, something is wrong there. You'll have to test the circuit to find out if its the switch or the resistor for the fan or the fan itself. I would check the fuses first.

The three controls are separate: temp simply controls how much hot water is allowed to circulate through the heater core, heat/defrost controls whether the heat comes out at your feet or onto the windshield, fan obviously controls the speed of the fan. If the fan is off you will still get air pushed through the system when the car is moving.

No a/c. jakengle's explanation makes sense -- I can only feel heat while driving.
I will start digging into fuses, resistors, and fan motor. Where is the fan located?

The other two controls work just fine. Thanks, guys.
