I added a pair of Hedmen Hedders last year. This year, I noticed a ticking sound like tappets, off the line. Sound goes away at higher revs. Closer inspection reveals the two back exhaust ports are black where the gasket is.

Do gaskets go regularely on these engines especially with headers?

Would copper gaskets be the way to go ? I would hate to re-do every year.

Also, I don't drive too often, but I hope I didn't do any engine damage driving with (a) blown gasket(s)

Thanks, Darryl

The bolts could have loosened up causing the gaskets to leak. It's always best to tighten the bolts up every so often. Especially after you first instlal them, they tend to loosen up on cool down.
I'd recommend some felpro or mr gasket ulra seals and small bead of high temp silicone around the ports will help alot. The orange or copper stuff will work. This is epecially import on the cheaper headers that have the thinner flanges they are more prone to leaking.
