Hello all,

I am new to the forums and new to Mustangs. I recently purchased a 1970 hardtop with a 302/2v. I use it as a daily driver.

I have been having a problem with the car that has everyone baffled. The symptoms are...
-It always starts fine even in the dead of winter.
-It idles smoothly all of the time.
-Sometimes after starting it will be off, what I mean by off is that between 1000 & 2000 RPMs the engine will shake so bad you think there was an unbalanced crank in it. After 2000 RPMs it will be fine, also when it is like this I can hold the gas pedal down 1/8 of the way to the point that I can make the car die and/or backfire. The shaking will be very excessive when cold and smooth out as the engine warms but never as smooth as when it runs right.
-Sometimes after I start it, it runs smooth from 0-5000+ RPMs.

It's like a flip of the coin every morning.

Any ideas? Originally I thought it was a choke issue but that was fixed and operates just fine no matter which way the engine decides to start and run. Also the carb and points are new (<2 months) from a previous problem and the timing is cool.
