I fairly recently became the owner of a 1968 Mercury Montego MX convertible, which was saved from rotting away in a field. The plan is to get it back on the road where it should be as soon as possible. I look forward to participating in this forum.
Loved the 68 Montego. I had a 68 Cyclone GT fastback, 302/4v 4 sp, 3:50 rear. Cost me $2,950 new. Car was peppy, but not fast. (I didn't want "fast".) Ran about 15.6 at the drag-strip. Peppy enough. Every now and then, I'd swap my Cyclone for my friend's motorcycle.
Very pretty car.
If I remember correctly, the top of the gas tank is actually the floor of the trunk. I dropped a leaking gas tank once from my sis/in/law's 68 Torino Brougham by unbolting the tank from inside the trunk.
