As I am aware of all the knowledge that floats thru this site , I was wondering if anyone could give me some type of guess as to what horsepower expected to be developed from the following motor that I am finishing up.....as follows:

400 C.I. motor from ’75 ltd
bored .30 over
351 c 2V aussie heads
32-246-4 comp cam
roller rockers
1160 silvolite stock pistons
Mallory distributor
Edlebrock performer intake
Holley 650 carb
Headers

Any ideas?

Thanks, Skip

You've fixed 2 of the 3 issues with that motor: stock cam and 2 bbl. compression is # 3. I would try to bring it up to around 9-9.5:1 by cutting the heads or decking the block, or both. check out the 400 build in the archives, I thimk they got around 380 hp/450 ft lbs with similar build, although they cut stock heads to bring up compression. don't think they had headers.

Stock 400 pistons are way down in the bore. Without zero deck pistons or something very close, the Aussie heads are a complete waste of money and actually flow less than a regular open chamber 2V C head.
contact http://www.tmeyerinc.com/ for zero deck pistons if you insist on using 302C heads.

I wouldn't mill the heads for compression - mill the block, or you'll have terrible quench.

But if you get the compression up some, you'll have a strong combo.
