So the C6 out of the 68 390 got "rebuilt" (har har). That's another story. Put it in Pressure leak near pressure port. Fine, quarter size weld and done. HOWEVER,,,,, Out the shift seal now a sitting constant leak even after I did those 2 seals on that linkage. 38 years in Hyd gen I can sink a seal true. NO MATTER. So here's my ?. If I had no dipstick and had to run tranny safely would I be told its to pan top? Pressure port? Shift shaft? 1" above? Below? JUST WHERE?????
Cause b4 I go into further warranty destruction I wanna know my level is perfect

Engine idling in Park, HOT trans fluid level should be at the level of the pan gasket.

Cold trans engine idling level is approx 1/2 quart below that.

What MATTERS is HOT level... cold .... not so much.

Cold engine and trans that has sat overnight or longer.... engine NOT RUNNING...
the trans fluid level will often RISE ABOVE the HOT RUNNING fluid level, due to converter drain back.

Again, what matters is HOT RUNNING fluid level.
