I had a 95 F-350 super-cab dually with a 460 before I bought my Excursion.....

It was a pretty good runner up until I sold it with 75,000 miles on it.....the guy I sold it to needed to put a head gasket in it at 90,000 miles......

I think they have a good track record for long lasting but,the head gaskets can be a problem when they get up there in miles.....

P.S. Beware of the gas mileage they get as it sux.....I think the OPEC nations "jumped for joy" everytime of the 460 Ford powered trucks rolled from the assembly line.........

the 460 is a solid and reliable engine, even when making better than 1.5hp per cubic inch. they do have some issues, fuel economy(like that matters if you plan on building a 460) is one of them.

My 97 F-350 has around 93,000 on it and is still running stong. Not to sure what some people think of as bad mileage. Mine has a chip, single 3inch with a flowmaster and a K&N coldair kit and it gets between 11-12 towing my bronco down the highway and thats with the cruise set around 75-80. Before I bought this truck I was using my 81 bronco with a mildly built 400 it only got around 5or6 mpg but I do think it had alittle more power. So for me 11-12 seemed pretty good

My 95 CC LB F350 was at 135k miles when I traded it and I had zero engine problems with the 460. Mileage was pathetic but it was a 7k pound truck with truck gears. I drive with a heavy foot and on a good day I got 10mpg. Towing in the mountains 7mpg. My 2000 f350 diesel is at 125k miles and is just as reliable but I get an honest 15mpg driving the same way with the same trailers.

I have a 92 with 130K and it's a beast. I have only had to do general maintenance on it.

Very reliable with normal maintenance, but thirsty as others have said. Depends a lot on gear ratio too, but really in that case is it bad mileage or really bad LOL

I have a buddy with a dually 460 EFI, 4.30 gears, it will tow along side my 2013 diesel (within reason) with a 26 foot tag, but I get 12 mpg when we go to the races, he gets 4-6 depending on if we run my speeds or his .....his day is significantly more expensive
