Almost forgot, have any of you put auto meter guages in the stock guage pods on a 63 or 64? I've seen it done, but in magazines. I have 2 5/8" pro comp guages that I want to put in there. Whats all involved in doing this?
The speedo and tach slide in from the front side inplace of the fuel and temp gauge. The billet insert also comes in from the front and the screws and tabs hold it in place. That is if you are using the Boese insert. I LOVE MINE. I went with electronic speedo. One botton calibration no matter what you have for gears or tires.
I've seen the setup, and yes it's sweet. However, I like the old sweeping speedo, and just wanted to replace the fuel temp guages for something more accurate. I saw it in a 2003 issue of Hot Rodding where a guy in Toronto had a tubbed blue 64 with 2 5/8" in the pods. He actually fabricated into his dash along the edge two round pods for some more guages. Looked clean.
Hey Wayne I remeber when you first posted the pics of your dash, I almost forgot how nice it came out !!! Can you or will you be making the cwnter plate? Also what brand of tach/spedo did you use?
NICE !!!!!!!!!
No I wont be making any center plates as the health is in the toilet lately. But I used the original speedos clear plastic as the template and then a lot of lay out with a set of drafting dividors. I used 1/8" alloy plate for the center. And to make the larger gauges to fit the pods you have to mill out the old center of the pods. This could be done by hand if you have patience. The cluster installed
Don't know if this will help any but I put an Autometer tach where my temp gauge had been. I put it in from the back so it would look more "factory". I had an old S/W gauge pod so I mounted it in the dead area below the speedo. That plastic piece was pretty sad anyway.
Good luck, Phil
