I got this from the guys at pony carb when I got a 2bbl from them (autolite) Basically, get your engine warmed up, hook up a vac guage then first set your timing for max vac (there will a point at which more timing won't give more vac), then your mixture screws for max vac, finally reset your idle. You're aiming for the highest vac at idle.
Do a couple of road tests, if you get any pinging back your timing off until it just stops. Check vac, mix, and idle once more and you're done. Kinda trial and error but this sets you up for best combination of efficiency and power.
