Afternoon all......thought I'd take a moment to say hi and introduce myself. I'm Tim, and as the screenname suggests, I'm not specifically a Galaxie guy, but more like a weird cousin.

I've got two '65 Mercurys.....the first is a Montclair Marauder, and the other is a Monterey Marauder, both of which are two door fastbacks. The Montclair is the one that I'm currently in the planning stages of building, and the Monterey is the parts car in support of that plan. To be honest, they're both in pretty rough shape, but you have to start someplace. I figured since the 65 Galaxie and the 65 Marauder are essentially the same car underneath, it might be in my best interest to join this board.

Granted, there are Mercury Marauder boards out there, and I'm a member of a couple of them, but to be honest, they don't have the membership necessary to support a wide database of information, and enough people to have constructive discourse on the subject on a regular basis. Heck, one of the Marauder sites seems to all but forget that the Marauder nameplate came a long time before the reincarnated version in 2003. Since that's the case, finding helpful information on that site for the original Marauders has been somewhat challenging.

Now, I know this is a Galaxie site, and I will try to keep my questions about Marauder specific issues to a minimum (emblems, body panels, etc.), but since the rest of the car is nearly identical to a Galaxie in a mechanical sense, I figure I'll have plenty to read up on for a while. So, as a result, I'll probably be lurking in the background most of the time, reading what's already been said so that I can find the answers I might need.

I suppose I should at least relay the plan I have for my Mercury........ever since I became aware of that movie "Hit and Run" where they build Dax Shepard's '67 Lincoln into a beast, I started looking at my Mercury in a different way. I had one of these Marauders before, and to be fair, it handled like the USS Nimitz. So, while it was fun as a cruiser, it wasn't all that much fun as a corner capable vehicle. Well, time passes, and suspension componentry has improved drastically over the years, and I started to have the thought "I wonder if I can build something akin to a pro-touring Mercury?" So, that has been where my plan has been going. I want the car to be nearly stock in appearance, but I want it to be ultra capable in the areas that count.....engine, suspension, braking. I've been doing a bit of reading on the subject, and I know it's somewhat of an uphill battle, but I still think this car has the potential to become something really cool.

I just finished another project a little while back. For those of you that hang out on the Ford Truck Enthusiasts forum, my name there is Behemoth, and my truck "Buford" was my project there. He's a '79 F250 Ranger XLT 4X4 Supercab Trailer Special (yes, Ford went nutty with the badging on that one). Buford was an exercise in what enough money, time, a healthy amount of obsessive/compulsive disorder, and just plain weirdness could produce. He's my big baby now, but I'm already getting the itch to start another project.

Anyway, I won't get into details about the Merc.....I've already blathered on quite long enough for a 'meet and greet'. Just thought I'd say howdy.......so, "howdy"!

Thanks for the welcome!.......I'm sure I'll be posting a lot of pictures in a build thread once I've started the project. Currently, I'm still locked up in my house after surgery on my foot, and I'm going a little stir crazy (it's been six weeks....there's only so much daytime TV and PS3 I can take).

As for pictures of my truck, those wouldn't really be appropriate here, would they? I have a bunch on the FTE website, but I didn't figure it'd be a good idea here. Maybe once I'm up and about this summer I'll take a few of Buford just for good measure.......maybe I can park next to a Galaxie with the truck to put it into context!...lol

I'm hoping to start teardown of the Merc perhaps sometime this summer, but we'll see how physical therapy goes. In the meantime, I've found a number of parts for it on Ebay, including some of the really hard to find items (trim, emblems, NOS grille, lenses, etc.). I've also been doing a bunch of research on engine setups as well. Basically, everything right now is academic......I'm hoping the practical application will start soon, though.

Welcome to the forum! You came to the best forum on the web for Galaxie orrrr Merc or generally any Ford, Fordish persuasion! You're not the first Merc Marauder hombre to stroll in here. :) There is another one or two here even and Mercs are close enough for us! Just another relative.

So, you going to have this done by July when we have our annual BBQ bash in Port Orchard area?!! Hurry! We'd even let you drive the Ranger here. I think we all decided on the 20th...more info probably next month when it's closer. Some of us meet up in Fife and get in trouble every time almost, just being present there! :)

No, don't think I'll be making that........will probably still be in physical therapy, and won't have even started on the Mercury project yet. As for bringing the truck, maybe next year.......Buford still hasn't been on the road for more than a shakedown run yet, and I don't want to make a trip over the mountains yet until I figure out if I've got all the bugs out yet. I appreciate the invite, though! I figure if I can tear the Merc down this year, and start building an engine, I'll be in pretty good shape.....we'll see how things progress.

Can't blame ya there then. Things will be up in the air for next year but doesn't mean we won't get together somewhere and bench race and bs.

Better get some pics of the rigs before there's a riot though! :)

As soon as I'm allowed to be up and around, I'll see what I can do about the pictures. Buford needs a bath, as I'm sure he's coated in a layer of dust, but I want to be able to take him to a show the weekend of June 15th if I can. I'll see if I can get a couple shots then.

As for the Mercs, they're out at dad's place (I don't have the garage space), so I'll have to make a trip out there. I'll warn you.......right now, both of them look like field finds so it won't be pretty. On the other hand, if I can make something out of them, it'd be quite the turnaround if documented in pictures. As I said, I'll start posting pictures once I start a build thread so as to document any progress.

For now though, I'm still stuck at home watching TV.......and I'm REALLY getting tired of it. Going to see the doc next week, so maybe he'll let me start becoming more mobile.
