I had my 302 deck to -.010 so the pistons are .010 out of the hole. I built the motor for 5500 but have changed my mind. I would like to see 6500 to 7000 and I know the stock rods will not take it (piston into the head) I have some KB-116 pistons that I am going to use.

What rod should I go with H or I beam?

Either is just fine for 7000RPMs with short stroke 302. .010" out is what I run on everything and have for many years. Never had a problem with even stock rods stretching enought for pistons to touch the heads. I've done it to 302s and 351Ws with both stock and H-beam rods. Aftermarket I-beam rods are also very good. Have fun
