I had my engine rebuilt not to long ago and was built with 11:1 comp. The builder said he set it up for nitrous and i want to know the exact ratio or close to it without pulling it apart or anything. It is a 289 with stock heads. Im not sure what type of pistons he used either. I need help cause i want to spray it and i can get ahold of race gas about 15 minutes from my house. If the ratio is true what octane would u say i need for it with about 100 shot on it? Thanks

you'll have to find out more about the pistons and heads to know accurately what compression you have. If you really do have 11:1, with iron heads, you'd need race fuel for sure on a small-block.

The 351W in my Galaxie is 11:1 and it runs fine on 91 pump gas, even with the iron heads.

Yea, I guess if you retard the timing enough and run a pretty good cam, it would run. But doing this would "reduce" the bottom-end torque I would think.
