I found this Fairlane XL for sale on Autotrader.

Its just about the perfect combo and color Ive been looking for!

Can you guys look it over and tell me what you think about the car?

I know you cant tell everything by not being there in person, but in general does it look like a car that you would start to deal on if you were me?

I like the color and its a XL model,so its pretty rare!

I think it looks real nice and it could be the nexted car in the fleet?

I really value your input,I know you guys would never steer me wrong!

This car is in Salt Lake City, its 1433 miles from Milwaukee.

If I did end up getting this car I was thinking its a hellava drive to go get it!

I guess its not too bad,but almost 3000 round trip miles away is a factor.

I could have it shipped back for $717.00 that might be a better move.

I guess I have a weird feeling about buying stuff without seeing it in person.

Who knows, the car could have been sold already, but if they still have it I think it might be the one I have been waiting for.

I e-mailed the place thats selling it for more info on it.

I wonder if we have any Fordmuscle guys in Salt Lake City?

The gears are turning, and everytime I look at this 67 Fairlane 500 XL I get "goosebumps"!!!

There asking $8500.00 for the car,I just love this car!

I have been looking for a long time now for a car set up like this, and its not been easy to find one?

Most of the ones I found were either a way to much $$$$ or just looked "hokey"!

There is something about this one that just says "Dyno Tom,please buy me and bring me to Wisconsin!"

I really want this FAIRLANE BAD!

Patience, Tom! Patience!! You're buying a 30 year old car that you've never seen and paying over 8 grand, at that. If you have to, hire a proxy to inspect the car and report back to you. Pics make everything look better than they actually are. I looked for my comet for over two years before buying one practically in my own back yard. You'll find the right car, but it takes time.

Tom,
Check out www.recycler.com/ for cars here on the left coast. Select Cars,Trucks& other vehicles from the opening page and then just punch in what you want. I found a couple of '67 Fairlanes for under $2500 and a project '64 T Bolt clone less motor for $1000.Worth a look just for fun.

Yes Greg, I did notice that the engine 289 emblems were not on the car.

I would check all the engine codes and tags to make sure it is a real Fairlane XL package car.

I generally dont care about codes, but this time Im looking at a car that should be a real one for the money they are asking for it.

I wouldnt want it for that kinda money if its a rebodied 6-cylinder car with all the XL package added.

Its kinda the same story with my 66 Galaxie 500 I just picked up.

Its also missing the 390 engine emblems on the fenders! I checked the vin codes and its a S-code 390 4-V car,so it was not a small block car from the factory.

I also saw that both front fenders on the Galaxie have been replaced, they still have the Ford part numbers in yellow stencil visable on them from the inside.

I figure at one time the car was hit or something, and they were replaced at that time?

The car has no front frame area damage,so It looks like it wasnt that bad of a hit?

If you look at the picture of my 66 Galaxie you will also notice the 500 XL hood chrome strip it has on it,the 500s didnt have it on them,so it was probably added when the fenders were changed out?

I guess its no big deal?

The car was a good price and I can add the engine emblems to it,and the hood is getting swapped out for a glass T-Bolt one here soon!

It's a perfect mild 514 or 557 transplant Fairlane for fun daily drivin'. Crites makes the kit and you have the need for speed. Sure looks nice in the pics. Looks like the perfect candidate for the big block or stroker if the car is what it seems to be.

Just my opinion DT but some one cut holes in the shock towers to grease the upper control arms one hole looks good other look ugly. I dont remember the master cylinder back then having a bolt hold donw i could be wrong. Im thinking the heads arent 289s all the ones i remember you could see the front manifold bolt going from the intake to the head just for that little stretch before it got to the head i could be wrong there too. Also for that kind of money i would want everything to be as correct as possible. But this is just my opinion. this is my friend bobs 302 with 289 heads and you can see the bolt going to the head i sold him the heads.

Great looking car, Tom!

I saw that one, but it is too rich for my pocket book, at least right now.

Keep us posted on how you resolve the issues about inspecting at a distance. I am struglling with the same thing as I shop for my Fairlane.

Just Jim, thanks for the link. I added it to my bookmarks.

Yea Bossman, same place has both cars.

I did a Autotrader search for 64-67 Fairlanes and both of them showed up.

I still kinda feel uneasy about such a long distance deal like this!

I have bought stuff before from places that were far from where Im at,but in those cases I either new the guy selling it or I had a friend check it out in advance.

I will keep it in mind, but for my price range Im in it will open me up to alot of different cars to consider.

I like the lime green Mopar next to the building. Imagine a 570 stroker 460 in that!

Yes Coupe, Thats a neat looking Mopar!

I have tried to break my "Ford only" spell Im under in the past by looking into buying something without the Blue Oval on it?

Its not going to work for me,I cant do it!

It has to be a Ford or a Mercury,I feel so outta place even considering other brands anymore!

I cant help it,Im addicted to Fords!

Is there a cure,I dont know, but if there is I dont want it!

Hey DT that is a sweet looking Fairlane! But I too would be leary since it is that far away. I would try and find a way to have someone check it out for you and send you some real detailed pictures.
Are any of those other 7 your looking at closer? If you don't consider any of them, let me know, my dad's looking for a 64 or 67 Fairlane himself. He kicks himself every day for getting rid of his 67 390 4spd hardtop Fairlane. But I kick him for getting rid of the 69 428CJ Mach I Mustang he had. Are any of those Fairlanes close to my area? Im in southern Indiana.

Ron Meyer, none of the cars are in Indiana, but I will keep you in mind if there is something down that way in the future.

I guess thats whats kind of different with this car search, the cars are showing up all over the U.S. and its hard to get to see them in person.

Of the 7 cars Im watching right now, only 4 of them are Fairlanes,so Im keeping tabs on other possible cars I want as well as the Fairlane.

I think Ill will probably end up with the car in the nexted couple months or so?

Im watching these cars very close!

DT, if any cars you are looking at are somewhat close, like in IN,IL,KY,TN,OH,MO, I'd be willing to go look at them for you. I'm wanting to take some vacation soon, and I'm always up for a road trip. I've got a dig camera I could take pictures for you too. Thanks for keeping us in mind though.

I know how it is looking at something far away. My ex and I drove like 4 hours one way to look at a (supposed) excellent cond 65 Mustang for her. The guy said it just needed paint. Well when we got there to look at it, it was sitting in a roofless garage and needed more than just paint. The tires were flat, mice been in the seats, rusted floor boards and one door and quarter. From the looks of the guy, he hadn't been out of the house to see it in a few years. For $3500 we decided to pass.

That is a sharp car! But it's worth a flight to check out for that kinda $. Sure you could get one cheap enough right now. Looks like they have a couple of nice rides there...

Got a friend that's got a 67 Comet Cyclone(or used to, haven't talked with him for a couple of years). Older restoration, small block car, silver with silver interior. He was asking around $4K at the time.
