i have a 351w with stock heads. i bought comp cams long slot rockers, longer pushrods, and their adapter kit, so i could put a different cam in (.509 intake lift, .512 exhaust lift). after i assembled the motor, i have no clearance between the bottom of the rocker arm and spring retainers on the intake valves. the exhaust valves seem to have plenty of space. what can i do to gain clearance under the rocker arms.

longer pushrods will help, but may throw off the geometry.

with that small cam, how come the stock rockers wouldn't work?

You may have to to with smaller diameter springs, lash caps, longer pushrods, clearance the rockers a little, different retainers, or a combination of any of the above.

Seems like at one time I used 460 rockers on a 302 to get some extra clearance. Can't remember though.

the comp rockers are 1.6 , and the pushrods are longer than stock 8.250 in. i looked again, and i noticed that the amount of space from the top of the retainer to the top of the valve is different from intake to exhaust. i can see a lot more of the valve tip on the exhaust. i didn't measure it, but it is very noticeable.
