Ignition timing question???

I was wondering what might cause my timing mark to bounce once its gets over 4000 with a timing light? It stays nice and steady all the way to 4000 then it starts to jump up and down.
I pulled the distributor to check the gear and it seems to be fine. I also looked at the cam gear and it looks fine. Any ideas?

Ignition timing question???

Have you checked out your dampner? Do you get any vibrations as rpm go up? If The damner rubber connection failed, it could cause the outer ring to move around.

another possible cause is if you did not disconnect the vacuum advance. That could show your symptoms.

Ignition timing question???

I've checked the dampner by putting a white line all the way across it and they still line up and I dont run a vacuum advance distributor.
Thanks for responding.

Ignition timing question???

Check for other spark wires laying against the number one wire.
Current can jump across leads and give multi signals.
