Just wondering how some of you are dealing with higher gas costs. Any impact on your street cruising and/or racing? I've had to de-tune mine as I use it as a daily driver.

Luckly I live close to my campus(student at UCSC) so I can walk and not have to drive. Although my mustang only get driven on nice days, the station wagon that I drive (64 pontiac catalina) gets around 10mpg and the gas pump hurts.

Yeah man. I have been missing out on some pretty good paying races lately...can't afford to put gas in the truck to get there. Most of them are 100+ miles away when the local track is less than 50, and the owner of the local track lets us keep our cars there...he's a friend of mine. Just drive up there once ever 2 weeks, beat on the junkers, and drive home. Saves a bunch of fuel. And even then, I don't know how long I'm going to be able to do it. As long as I can work some OT to make and extra $100/wk...I'll do it. But if the boss says no more OT, then no more biweekly racing.

Fill the F150, fill the Ranger, get 10 gallons of premium for the Saturday race - $122. The F150 moved twice this week - once home from the track with the car, and today back to the track with the car. And it's sitting at the track, tied to the trailer and we're using the Ranger as a daily. It's starting to hurt - and the car count is WAY down this year.

My F250 has the small short bed tank, probably the same size as your F150 Chris. Filled it sat morning, $98.00, the tank was quite empty though, light was on.
Gas is now $1.20 a litre here.

Sure it hurts. Thankfully I only drive a few miles each way to work. Might have to consider walking or getting back on a bike! I have a question. What about octane boosters? I already use lead substitute, anybody have any input. My Gal is a 352 with an Edelbrock carb and headers and I'll admit to not knowing anything about tuning or detuning but I do notice some spark knock once in a while.

As my '72 is a "weekends and warm summer nights" kinda thing, I can't say it's really impacted my driving. Sure, when I see $3.10+/gal for 94 it kinda sucks, but a tank of gas every (or every other) weekend hasn't been the end of the world.
I CAN say, though, that I really appreciate my daily driver ('06 Taurus) a whole hell of a lot more! LOL!!

I didn't drive my Gal much to begin with but thought i was going to be driving it into town today so went to put $20 in the tank. Saw the price was $3.29 for the cheap stuff which is all I've ever used in her and said well, I better make that $25 so I'll have at least 7 gallons to get me into town and back. It's about 35 miles to where I was going, i had a little gas still in the tank and i get 10mpg. Now I don't even take it to the store hardly!
Good time to replace the balljoints and such I guess.

Yeah it is hell on an old man, with a fixed income.

With three good engines and trans combinations in the garage: I elected to go with a 144cid, 85 HP engine in the Refugee from the peanut patch Ranchero. It is comming around good with just the paint work and interior to put in it. Then I can drive it to the shows and cruises.

That 427cid in the Galaxie has had it setting in the barn for awhile.. I sold a 302 engine and thought I could drive it to the local show tomorrow and cruise in tomorrow night. So what happens? it rains like Hell so I can't clean the dust off it. Maybe I can fill the tank with gas and drive it to the cruise in next month.

That's just the way things go with a po ole Ga *******.

BTW: That Refugee will make a good parts chaser won't it? :t
