Any ideas? This is weird. I wanted a street motor that sounds mild until it opens up, but I got a screamer with a rough idle. BTW, the thing sounds great and pulls all the way to 6000 RPM. How I did that beats the hell outta me. Thought the ports would be too small to flow. Guess I don't know crap.

Here's the info I think is pertinent:

4.04 bore = 411 CID
10:1 comp pistons (Probe forged)
Stage 3 RPM heads (I know, they're small, but the ports match the Vic Jr perfectly)
Vic Jr intake - polished only
Cam - 224/234 (.496/.520) 110 sep. This is small, why the grumbly idle?
Timing - initial, no vac, 10 deg. stock dist. curve.
NO vacuum leaks! That's the first thing I checked. Seals are great all around.
Carb (don't laugh) is the Edelcrock 750 CFM Vac secondary electric choke.

That helped a bit. Was rather rich and had to change those funky metering rod springs. Still sounds pretty mean though. I guess it's hard to muffle 408 cubes of RAW FORD POWER!

Gonna now make sure everything's secure and head out to the track for my very first run with my bad stang.

Thanks Chilly - hey, you gonna make the Woodward Cruise? I didn't join the forum in time to get in on the preferred parking, but I only live 30 miles away. I'd like to hook up with all of you and see these cars.
