I've been trying to solve a detonation problem on my '65 Mustang. The spark plugs are white which makes me think I have a lean mixture. It's a Carter 600 AFB which I believe generally has a rich mixture out of the box, so I'm wondering if I might have a vacuum leak somewhere. I don't have any stumble or bogs anywhere, it runs good except for the pinging and bad mileage. If there were a leak would I have symptoms?
Thanks for any advice.

Try spraying carb cleaner around the manifold and carb if rpm comes up you have a leak. If not what is your timming set at.
try retarding the timimming till the ping goes away. just my .02 cents
