I have a friend looking for a '64 galaxie gas tank. I have found a seller on ebay that has a tank, sending unit and straps for $309. It says that it fits 1961-1964. Is this correct?

I had a 64 but never had to get a tank so I am not sure.

Good friend btw, I'm swapping a complete 289 for a complete 390 longblock. :)

Have you tried searching the Gal forum a bit? I remember reading recently about one of these tanks being installed on a '62, but the owner had to modify the neck. Another stated that he had no vent and thus went to a vented cap.

By application in a Ford parts 'book', each year; 1961, 62, 63, and 64 non-station wagons are different p/n's. Still, they are all 20 gal tanks. So, that can mean anything from filler neck bend changes, to missing a vented return. The 'replacement' tank may be a hybrid of all the tanks. ...or.....an ill-fitting part which requires tweaking and cussing. hmmm

These companies are making their own "expanded application" part ... which sometimes makes good sense (especially for THEM), lol But, if it works, and it's cheaper than say C & G which shows a '64-only for $500, then he is waay ahead.

I plan on replacing my tank sometime .... but, I'd love to hear how your friend's tank replacement goes, thanks!

The '64 is a non-vented tank that uses a vented cap if that helps any. Rockauto has them and dearborn classics i think. Crites used to sell them i thought but couldn't find them recently. They rebuilt their website and i couldn't find nothing or seemed that way. I was lost. I noticed some the filler neck is straight and some have a curve. Mine is like the one pictured here. But that one is in Canada and a little higher priced so maybe they go by which you order and the tank itself is the same. The rock auto one looks to have the curve also but one of the tanks i saw on ebay didn't. Sold by Tomsclassics i think. Most of the tanks though seem to be made by Spectra Premium.

Checked them out on the spectra site and says part # is F57B which i thought someone mentioned in a thread here a few days ago.
Spectra doesn't appear to sell tanks directly but they do have a 3 yr warranty for materials and workmanship on fuel tanks.
