Trouble shoot this...

Tuned a brand new Edel 1406, 600cfm elec choke carb on a '71 302...

Car has new cam and Edel carb and manifold...

It ran AWESOME when I tuned it... Then a couple day's later it won't Idle and is running rich...

It's a 60 mile drive from here so I want to know what to expect B4 I get there...

What would cause this?

One other odd thing was that when I tuned it the Idle circuts worked best only 1/2 turn out! and only effected the idle when turned all but 1/4 turn in... any farther than 3/4 turn out it would start running crappy...
That sounds backwards to me.... What gives... It's an Edelbrock/Weber not the edelbrock/carter

It sounds like the carb is running way too rich if you have the right heat range plugs in it. The plugs will load up with carbon changing the adjustments necessary on the carb. A 1406 is a race version carb. You will need a kit from edlebrock and the chart to adjust the jets, springs and power rods to your setup needs. great street carb when right. The kits are availible at jegs or sumitt. Good luck. Oh by the way there are several tricks to make the carb flow more to if you're the adventurous type. Always like making things work that everyone says are a piece of crap ya know!!!

What is your Fuel Pressure?
Most stock Ford pumps put out mores psi than the Edelbrock carbs can handle.
This will cause it to idle pig rich because the needle and seat can't close.
Get a fuel pressure gage and a regulator (a cheap NAPA dial a flow will fork) and set the pressure to 5 psi.

Edelbrock carbs will work with more pressure than that according according to factory specs. Besides most cars wiil do fine on 5 or 6lbs of pressure. watch your float settings keep it on the low side if anything

OK fella's, I'm leaving is a few minutes to go out there again.
There has to be an interrnal issue with it. I tuned it to run PERFECT from startup to fully warm to driving to cool down and start up again....

Maybe it is the float level or something else or maybe the guy never burned in his cam properly and now it's flat...

Whatever it is I will find it.
