I bought this coil as part of a Duraspark conversion for a 1966 Ford F250. This truck originally has a points dizzy. The instructions for the coil that it needs a resistor for operation. Is it necessary since the truck already has a factory ballast resistor for points operation?

As long as you have a resistor to the coil's +12v it's fine. You can use the factory 'resistive wire', factory ballast resistor, or aftermarket resistor, all should work fine.
