I cant remember what my source was, but I was told to use a power booster off a 67 Gal with disc/drum. A master cylinder from the 78 cougar I have will be a direct bolt on. Why not just bolt the MC to the booster on my 65 that has drum/drum. It looks to me like it would fit without taking any fine measurements.
Also, the aluminum MC I pulled form the 78 cougar is an aluminum Bendix unit. A call to Bendix found this part originally for a 1981 Pontiac Firebird and is discontinued. They claim they dont even have a rebuild kit for it. Can you believe it? Anyway, it is obvious to me there is alot of interchangablilty with master cylinders. So my question is what other masters can I use in place of the 78 cougar master? My challenge is to find an aluminum one with 1" bore like the one I pulled, but I have to know the exact part otherwise the parts stores act like they are frozen in a state of suspended animation!! I read somewhere about a certain Dodge Van master but I cant find the info. HELP ME! Bendix is sick of me and I am sick of them. Frankly, I'm getting tired of brakes all together
. I dont want to give up and I dont want a cast iron MC they are way heavy. I have looked all over online and they just dont tell you much about the product at all. Im so frustrated right now.

No matter how complicated something is or seems, always start with the simple basics then work your way to the rocket science !!!

A source of the MC was off early 80's crown vics, especially when just changing MC's. Whether the booster will work is a different story. I think the MC with a clearish plastic may work as well, say off a early 90's or late 80's. It may be worthwhile to take a couple from a boneyard to see.

Wish I could help you, I cheated and went with an MP kit, probably did not spend too much more than buying yard parts for cores. But did pay enough more to alievate the grief of trying to round up the right parts.

Ken, here's my .02!

The booster will probably work fine, has nothing to do with disc/drum but with the amount of assist. What you will need to do is check the rod to piston lenth and some of them are adjustable. What you need is almost zero play between the rod and master and make sure the masters piston will fully return when the pedal is not depressed, check some of the later Fords for that master, just make sure it's for disc drum and not disc disc. Not sure if the bolt pattern is the same but I also recall my ford explorer and my dodge van both use the aluminum masters. So look into the 90's+ era.
