Hi everybody, names Winter. New to the forum and new to car restoration in general. I just bought a 66 Ford Galaxie 500 4dr. It’s not in bad shape for its age but needs some love regardless. It ran in Jan but since I don't have a key I can't confirm if it does now. I plan on just doing a simple restore nothing too crazy. New interior, paint job, little engine work, and minor body work planned. I am completely open to any advice or recommendations on how to go forward with the project since this will be my first restore.

The only thing I managed to do was clean out the interior so far but I'm pleased that I did something lol

Since the car came with no keys, I’ve gone ahead and ordered new locks for the doors, trunk, and a new ignition cylinder. The only method I found to remove the existing cylinder without the key involves drilling through it to make it turnable so it can be removed without breaking anything else(if there is a better option please let me know). That’s my plan for this weekend anyways. The only other issue I’ve come across is finding a front seat and door panels for the car, no matter how hard I look I can’t seem to find any for sale or even *junk ones rotting away somewhere. I’m not in a rush so hopefully I’ll find em eventually. I’ll post up the results of the lock and ignition swap when they come

I have some 2 door seats but judging how green your lawn looks I am a lot further north than you!

Thanks for the links! Lots of good stuff it looks like with these guys. Wish the 64 seats would fit in my 66. If they weren't so different I would get em in a heart beat since their less than half the cost of the ones in the link. I might do a lil research on that though.

Lars.... EVERYBODY in Vermont is a lot farther north that the rest of the known world :)

New guy, you have a long path ahead of you. Be Brave and stand tall and go for it!

Nice car to start with!
Haha thanks! I know this is gonna take a long time to get where I want it to be, but I'm OK with that. It's a good learning experience to say the least plus its gonna be a helluva lot of fun.

I have no idea. They would ask for measurements and then tell me what they were putting it in. Lol Craigslist??
I've had some strange offers for stuff I've put in craigslist. I put some sub woofers up for sale and a guy offered me an assault shotgun. I kindly turned him down.

A bit back I saw where a guy put Cadillac seats in his Gal. The seat belts came out of the shoulder of the seat, which was pretty handy. I think lots of pickup seats do the same thing though.

When I pulled my door panels to recover them, they were straight boards, no special curving. So if you want to redo them yourself you could do it with quarter inch hardboard.

I hope that with this 4-door you will feel free to redesign and do what you want. Three tone paint job, padded roof, reverb unit, tach on the hood, Mexican blanket, lake pipes... whatever you have seen somewhere and liked... put it on! Except stuff that costs a lot. Stay away from that.

Have some fun!

I noticed that the panels were just boards when I first got the car home. I thought it was kinda weird to be honest. I woulda thought more was involved but that's awesome since leaves room to do whatever I feel the urge to do. I'm probably going to try my own thing with the interior at first, if I screw it up goin back to stock lol

So...went and had a productive weekend. New locks, new ignition coil and switch installed. New battery. Had everything set to go then...nothing. Dang thing didn't want to turn over. Fuel filter dry as a bone so I'm guessing its the fuel pump. Gonna look into it this weekend, hopefully I can get her going soon.

If you can't wait, take off the cover of the autolite 4100 carburetor and fill the front bowl to 1" from the top. Slide the top back on and fire her up.

I tried that, not with a lot of fuel though didn't want to damage anything by flooding it with gas. I'll try enough to fill up to 1 inch from the top when I get a chance and see if that does it. Hopefully it doesn't explode on me.
