says they will offer you a 1000 bux to crush it or make you fix it, says this new camera or sensor will send you a ticket in the mail. so looks like there may be alot of folks buying cheap cars, getting the smog pa$$ed
, then finding out where the sensors are and keep driving past till the cam sends you a ticket and earning a 1000!. but thats not what i want to know, i hear 66 and under are free of these smog laws thanks to swartzenegger. it used to be each year the law would allow one more year to not have to smog..here we got upto 74-5 then i hear the gov. turned it back. but i am not certain. and cant find any info on any gov sites..but i am probably looking in the wrong place. anyone know if this new sensor will apply to a 66? i know i dont have to smog it as is. its silly cause all the new cars do pollute but not nearly as much as in the past, the real problem and cancer causer is diesel trucks...and they have no laws that i know of! but they feed us right! its just silly. good thing for our health is hibrids and electric cars are becoming more prevelant, maybe they should make semi's like that.

Is that the whole country, or is that just california. I havent heard of those up in minnesota, but we dont have laws even close to those of california. There are laws on diesal trucks, and even on diesal construction equipment. Restrictions keep getting tighter just like on cars and fourwheelers and snowmobilies.

Went to DMV site. Here it is.

Currently, smog inspections are required for all vehicles except diesel powered vehicles, electric, natural gas powered vehicles over 14,000 lbs, hybrids, motorcycles, trailers, or vehicles 1975 and older.

Vehicles registered in areas subject to the biennial smog certification program are required to submit evidence of a smog certification every other renewal period. Owners of vehicles six or less model years old will pay an annual smog abatement fee for the first six registration years instead of being required to provide a biennial smog certification. The registration renewal notice mailed to you by the department will indicate if a smog certification is required. If a smog certification is required and you have not had a smog inspection, you may still pay your registration fees to avoid any late fees. However, you will not receive your new registration or year sticker until the smog information has been received by DMV.

NOTE: Upon initial registration, nonresident and specially constructed vehicles 1976 and newer require smog certification. The six or less model years old rule does not apply to these vehicles.

When you transfer a vehicle that is four or less model years old a smog certification is not required. A smog transfer fee will be collected from the new owner. When a vehicle is more than four model years old, a seller must provide evidence of a current smog certification except when one of the following occurs:

The transfer occurs between a spouse, sibling, child, parent, grandparent, or grandchild.
A biennial smog certification was submitted to DMV within 90 days prior to the vehicle transfer date (a vehicle inspection report may be required for proof of certification).
Smog certifications are good for 90 days from the date of issuance.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Does my vehicle qualify for a smog exemption?

Smog inspections are required unless your vehicle is:

Hybrid
1975 year model or older
Diesel powered
Electric
Natural gas powered and has a Gross Vehicle Weight rating of 14,001 lbs. or more.
Motorcycle
Trailer

Just note that in CA, it is exempt from testing, not exempt from having smog equipment. You can still get a ticket for it if you have removed anything, but you really have to do something to deserve one of those.

1975 and older is exempt.
1976 to the present is required.
The state of California is doing everything it can to eliminate old cars/trucks from the roadways. Its tied into their money making scam.
They have been using these sensors for a few years in the L.A. and Long Beach areas. But now they are going to start increasing their usage to many other parts of the state.
It wont be long before the disease of this state infects the rest of the nation.
