hello,

i am rebuilding a steering column for a 64 fairlane it is missing the lower bearing but I saw a picture that shows that there is just some kind of packing wrapped around the bottom of the shart to take out the play. The inside of the column is 1-3/8" dia.the shaft is 1"in diameter. So is there a bearing or just some type of packing wrapped around the shaft?

a manual one the steering shaft that turns the gear box is permanently mounted to the gear and extends out of gear 2 feet pictures would probably get some response
