Hey guys,

I purchased an 04' Mustang GT. Originally the car was an auto, but the previous owner put in a 5speed. Did a great job on the swap, but never changed anything to the PCM so the car still thinks its an automatic. Now I need to get it passed smog but the check engine light is on due to all the tranny codes. What is the best (and hopefully cheapest) way to fix this problem? Get a new/used PCM (if so, will any pcm from 99-04 with a 4.6 and 5spd work?)? Or will a programmer/flasher work on an 04' (will it be able to reprogram it to a 5spd?)? If a programmer will work, which one should I get?

Any ideas from people who have done this would be great!

Thanks!

Before getting too concerned just yet, check if the smog test includes ANY codes or just ones that are emissions related. Normally, they scan for certain codes that are only emissions related and others are ignored, but each area is different.
