i ported my exhaust only, shaved .025 off the deck, put in a cammotion cam230/236,.565/.565 had a e-cam,totaly diff engine, revs up quick, roast 1st 2nd gear no porob,3.55 in a 92 lx,ran 12.90 on 26 inch slicks,i realy like the e-heads,wernt a lot of head choised back in 96,need to install spring cups, the spring damper ate thru the shim almost got the head.i wouldnt go crazy on them just clean them up a little esp on the exhaust side

mine ate through the shim too, but i had them ported and changed the springs because they are way weaker then the specs, i also got mine in 96' and AFR's werent made then.

I noticed a pretty good difference

would it be worth just cleaning up the exhaust ports[smoothing out the casting abit]on a set of the newer rpm heads?or would it be more work than the pay-off on a 99% street engine?

good luck finding any info. I bet I've posted similar questions about 25 times over the years. People want you to buy new AFRs rather than grind on an old set of heads. Well.....not all of us can afford to plop down $2000 on a set of heads that shouldn't cost anywhere near that in the first place.

well if you already have the heads then hell yes work them over, but iff your starting with a clean sheet of paper, there are better heads for 200-300 dollars more, and the gains are worth it,the heads are pretty decent out of the box,but could use a little work,if i had to go buy a set oif heads i would probly look at ths tfs or afr's for a little bit more money,i'll eat peanut buuter samachiz to do it right the first time

The ports wont help much, but there are lots of improvements in the bowls. Dont mess with the short side much, but the guide area and a nice smoothe transition from the seat to the bowl, and bowl to port should help low lift flow

Actually once you get good flow from them, from the port entrance to the chamber, port speed will be too high at the short turn so it can be widened and layed back some...but I wouldnt do it without a flow bench and pitot tube in hand.
