Doesn't seem to matter with or without insurance with some shops it seems. I went to 2 and told them I would get the parts, you tell me how much it's gonna cost me. One made me angry from the getgo like i was really thinking the side of my car could be fixed. Never went back to that one. The other never gave me a price and said he was waiting on a quote for a quarter panel. I gave up after that. Didn't have the cash anyway but wanted to know what I was looking at roughly at least. Drove my car 12 yrs before the side was pulled out and I think 2 more years before the quarter was replaced. But I love my car so didn't worry about what anyone said. I was just showing how the other half lived! LOL Wishing you luck that you got one now and get the job done!

This is my 64' Galaxie 500, Z code 390, Black/Red (Top Pic). Just picked this up at the end on last year...Transmission issues have plagued me since...(Bottom Pic) is my Black/Black 64' Galaxie 500, 390 (originally a X code 352) hit a deer almost 1 year ago, went with an insurance claim and have been led on for months by 3 different shops, currently working with one...fingers crossed!

She looks happy down there, lol! Left-hand drive common for that part of the world?

She's very happy, though she most probably misses your very long straight (and wide) open roads. Left hand drive not so common here, takes a little getting used to driving a left hand drive on the left hand side of the road, and some of our roads are skinny!

Years ago I almost killed myself in the Cayman Islands pulling out of a gas station in a left-hand drive Jeep...they drive on the "wrong side" of the road, too. I briefly felt your pain, lol

I drove in the States once in the 80's, in LA, had a Plymouth Volare. I was scared shitless! just about every intersection was a nightmare, and every time I saw a cop, I thought they would pull me over for driving like a child! Fun times.

My 50 Shades of Gray 7 Litre

My 7 Litre basket case project is finally complete (at least as far as I’m going with it). My car started out as a “barn find”. My wife’s aunt called one day to ask me about getting rid of an old FORD her late husband had sitting in their shed. After uncovering it and chasing off the racoon living in it, I found a 99% original 1966 Galaxie 7 Litre. The poor old thing had been sitting some 30 years just waiting for someone to get her out of that shed. Being an old fart now I really didn’t need another project but since it was a FORD, and an original 7 Litre I just couldn’t resist.

After a complete engine & transmission rebuild, the brakes, cooling, fuel system, and suspension were also redone. After that I had the nasty job of cleaning up the disgusting interior that the racoons and mice had called home for many years. Last but not least I did my best to make the exterior presentable again. Since I really like the “old school” look she’s going to stay “spray can” primer gray (not her original candy apple red). I ditched the ugly FORD hubcaps as well and went with the “old school” white rims.

So today was the day I’ve been waiting for. I took her out on the road for the 1st time. The 428 seems happy to stretch her legs again after some 30 plus years. She drove, shifted, and stopped just fine. It’s nice to know that I saved this old 7 Litre and got her back on the road again.

Here’s a few photos showing the day I first lad eyes on her, and also the way she looks today.

Great story and even better outcome! Love that you saved this rare car from the dusty barn and got her in a state where you could just enjoy it vs. the full on restoration where it wouldn't be used for another several years, if not longer.
