Well I just set my new crate motor in my 62 galaxie. went to hook up the temp gauge and the probe bottoms out before the fitting grabs to tighten it. The probe is the same length as my old one so the differant intake must be shallower than old one now what?
Has anybody ran across this before? They are both 302 ford this one is of a latter year block. Im going to try to rig a fitting that will raise it a little but dont know if I will be able to find one or not.
Anyone that has a fix let me know.

Yes I had the same problem for my Ford 302. I was using a Bosch mechanical water temp gauge. The shank on the probe was too long to fit my aluminum intake. Bosch makes an adapter just for that problem. It comes with two different fittings to work on your intake.

Going through this exact issue right now with the Bosch mini gauges. I decided to return the mechanical Bosch gauges and get the electric Auto Meter mini gauges instead.

The new gauges should be here Thursday and it should solve my problem. I hope........

Well I can not find the fitting to work so I intend to go to plan B. I will put a T in my heater hose and that will be that. I scoped it out today and it will work but the only thing it will not read untill the thermostat opens wich is not really ideal but it will work.

Well I was looking for an adaptor but found something even better. My 302 I took out had a thermostat housing on it that had the boss on it so I used that drilled and tapped a 3/8 pipe thread and it worked like a charm.

Glad you found a solution! I have a threaded plug on my housing but never thought to use that.

I went with the Autometer heater hose adapter for the temp sensor which worked out well and has a nice clean look. I'm able to keep my idiot light as well as a gauge. No such luck on the oil pressure though. I can't find a 1/4" NPT TEE locally so for now, no idiot light.

I didn't want any gauges hanging under the dash so I recessed them into the lower trim panel to the left of the steering column.

289, that engine looks really nice and clean, congratulations.

On my 65 instead of an elbow there was a Tee that came out of the intake; one leg went to the heater hose and the other went to the carburetor spacer hose. I took off the hose to the spacer and tapped threads into the tee and put a temperature sensor in there.

So for those who are looking for a 3rd solution and you have a place to order 1965 parts, order the heater hose Tee and see if that will work for you.

Thanks puttster, I appreciate that.

I read somewhere, not sure if it was here or not, that the '65 had a tee and that's what I initially looked for. I didn't have any luck with the usual suspects ( Mac's, Dennis Carpenter, Rock Auto) so that's why I opted for the Auto Meter adapter. Do you know any companies that carry the tee that you speak of? Too late for me but maybe it will help someone else that finds themself in this situation.

In that case, for posterity, i saw at a parts store once very similar once that was a part for a corvette. Maybe there's more.

I looked for those T's but the only ones I found were for 3/4" hoses. Mine is 5/8" so thats why I went a differant route. 289 that is a sweet looking engine bay!
