I broke my pump gear this Sat. night at the track.
I was shifting the motor higher than the tranny had ever seen. 7,000 into second and 6,700 into 3rd
Hit 3rd gear on a 6,700 rpm shift and it went.
What i like to know is why?
Are there and ways to make the gear stronger?
Ordered a new gear from Bulkpart.com but wondered if i will just break it ?

Yup looks just like that

Really a bummer as was just getting car to launch, was a blast taking off with the front wheels 6" off the ground.

Did you try and save your converter?
Mine has metal ground into it from the broken gear it looks like, and the pump gear does not want to seat down smooth. I was gonna try and file/sand paper it back smooth. Will this be ok to do?

I have a ******* transbrake valve body too. I also have an edge converter and I blew my pump up just like that. Edge told me the reason was Ilet of the brake without running the built up charge through the transmission. Sounds fishy to me. I am leaning towards the ******* valve body pressure relief not letting enough out. I'm goingto hook up a pressure gauge this time around and see whats going on at high rpm I suspect a LOT of line pressure is wiping these pumps out.

Anyway I had them weld a new hub on the converter and cut it open, clean it all out and install new bearings. $140 total but its worth the peace of mind.

I filed the snout back down to a nice smooth finish. Gears slips on just liek new. I am concered about what was mentioned as too much line pressure. I can try and setup a gage on it. What would be too much?

Is it as simple as changing the spring to raise and lower the line pressure?
